A masterpiece, but I understand why many people would disagree with this view.
The movie that explores modern society's deep denial of death, resulting in a deep, disturbing experience that will shake you to the core. Many could just dismiss the story as eccentric and "boring", but the movie really stands out thanks to the incredibly accurate anthropological work that was done to create the HÃ¥rla community, a fictitious religious group in the north of Sweden. Apart from the masterful direction and cinematography, what is really amazing is the directors' ability to show that death is really part of life, not its opposite. The HÃ¥rla community lives a perfect, harmonious life, and their rituals are perfect, beautiful and powerful, reminiscent of ancient knowledge and awareness. The contrast between the gruesome deaths and the amazing, lively and colorful rituals effectively show the viewer how death is an inextricable part of life, something we need to reconcile with as soon as possible.
