Inticing writing with well rounded characters and believable settings. Not long into the story I was fully immersed in the time of landlines and trains and the stigma of gay/mixed race couples. Marilyn is an amazingly well formed character who had me seeing the story third person and first person at the same time - my mind's eye could see her sitting at the table with Ada and Frannie, and also see the typewriter on the dresser in front of me. A truly stunning piece of work.
