Cuties Review
I recognize that this movie is a trainwreck. I decided that I shall put two points for this movie, from a technical/story standpoint, and a symbolism/morality one.
Technical/Story
This movie doesn't really make sense. None of the characters names are directly given and characters are introduced and/or tossed out randomly. It's really unclear what and who anybody is talking about in this movie. The story also moves at a pace which is also quite unclear. I have no clue what span of time this movie takes place over. All I know is that you don't just become good friends and learn to dance in as quickly as this movie suggests. The plot is also quite confusing. Things happen in this movie randomly, and then are either never spoken of, or are completely forgotten. In either case, why even put it in the movie? For example, the main character is making friends with someone and she puts her brother in the bathroom. The brother fills the bathtub and floods the rooms they're in. In the next scene everything is fine, and there isn't even mention of it. All in all, the movies story only makes half sense. I chalk this up to the voice overs. It's painfully obvious that this movie is voiced over; which is fine. But I have a feeling that this movie would be completely different if I spoke the language used in this movie. Not that I wanted to see any more of this garbage movie, but the ending was rushed. It concludes, but the viewer doesn't feel any different (maybe relieved it's over). There's no reason to, this movie is unsatisfying, and quite frankly hard to watch. All in all: confusing plot, uninteresting/ useless characters, and a very uncomfortable story
Symbolism/Morality
Honestly I felt like a criminal watching this movie. It's horrendous with what it pulls. There's nudity from a preteen/teen, it focuses a lot on these young girls butts, and it just makes the viewer feel uncomfortable. It also gives you a problem with no solution in the movie. One might say that perhaps that's the point, that they want the viewer to know this is an ongoing problem which could be fair, but the movie contradicts itself. It wants you to feel uncomfortable from the little girls doing and dancing sexually suggestive things, yet it glamorizes it. The symbolism is lost
Conclusion
There's no reason to watch this movie. It doesn't give you any sort of experience, you're not going to understand it, and honestly it's just weird. I find it odd that this is the indie movie Netflix will stick by, it's very questionable. There are hundreds of indie movies made, plenty are better than this one. There's no story here, it's just shock value. That's the whole movie, just seeing how far you will go; that's at least what it feels like. I didn't understand this movie, and I didn't learn anything. Even if I understood the directors intentions, this movie still would just baffle me. Everyone agrees this movie is just wrong.
