It's been a while since I've seen sci-fi this bad and I don't mean in the "so bad it's good" way. The moment Katie Sackoff slides out of a cryo-sleep chamber that isn’t slippery and looks distractingly like a morgue drawer with an inexplicable brain tube at the sleepers temples, I knew this was going to be a total mess. The writing is just awful and it’s hardly helped by uneven emotional delivery (how did he get so enraged all of a sudden?) and oddly timed beats. One gets the impression the writers would rather be doing teenage erotic melodrama, rather bizarrely, they try to use titillation to carry a weak story, cobbled together by unrelated sci-fi movie tropes. Everything hinges on unconvincing human behaviour that just wouldn’t happen. Most importantly, none of the characters are entertaining or likeable and Katie Sackoff, to her credit, tries to do her best with it. It’s just all terrible. “We have to go around this cloud of dark matter!” [Points to a literal black storm cloud in space]
SCIENCE fiction, needs at least a cursory level understanding of the science on which it is base .
