I have read the book; it is a wonderful piece of literature, a true masterpiece. The film (mini-series), however, is just so Netflix: take a great story and trash it. It bears no resemblance to the book in those areas which define the story. What was Steven Knight (the screenwriter) thinking!? It is so different from the key elements of the book (most particularly how & when the two main characters meet), that it's a travesty to give the film the same title as the book. If you haven't seen the Netflix attempt, don't. Please read the book, it didn't win the Pulitzer Prize for nothing. It is a wonderful story, traumatic at times, bitter-sweet certainly, but so, so moving.
