While I would love to explore the other editions, I think this one has to be the best in the bunch, I cant see any other way the author could have perfected this one.
Coming up on Samhain I really needed that final pop of Femininity and Pieter absolutely captures it without sexualizing the entirety of the women included in the collection. There is a focus on inclusivity and cultural exploration that easily takes you around the world with him through his photographic journey. There is a refreshing lack of AI and photoshop that really offers the reality of the 'angels' featured.
The choice to keep them in black and white helps you to focus in on every photo in a way full color portraits never could, as soon as I started flipping through it I couldn't stop. It has found its home on my table, and it is absolutely not going anywhere.
I went for the paperback, while amazing I think I may need to upgrade just to keep from ruining this copy. I keep finding myself thumbing through it any time I sit down. I also really appreciate the multiple languages that are included in this one. While I only speak english and spanish, I have family and friends whose first language is neither and I really hope that they will be able to enjoy it too. (I caught my aunt and her wife looking through it, and I think they where just as shocked by the quality as I was).
I have to note the book was a lot thicker and larger than I expected it to be. I haven't had very good luck with other photography books on amazon, and I felt super lucky to find this one, and am looking into the authors/photographers other works now that I have seen what he can do.
I was also very surprised there were so many full-page photos. It felt like stepping back into my child hood to find a photo-book that was actually a photo-book and not just ten pages to explain a single photo. On that note I think the only thing I would have liked would have been a little more info on a couple of the photos, but the lack of a long-winded explanation adds to the mystery. I like to imagine what brought the people featured there and how they became who the photos portray them to be.
I would absolutely recommend this work to anyone who enjoys photography.
