My takeaways: Confusing at best Great acting, Great cinematography Abysmal story The simple story is understandable, even if cliched, but the intricacies are confusing, illogical or just plain stupid, with new characters either being killed off or just forgotten. It’s also riddled with plot holes and inconsistencies, such as him escaping the lima ship using a metal plate of sorts as a shield against asteroids and the mars - neptune journey only being 4x longer than earth - mars despite being almost 100 times longer in reality. Scientific Inconsistencies can be forgiven provided they are used to further the plot, but in this case they arent, they just seem to be a lack of effort or care. It can be easy to be in awe of the cinematography and say that the movie is good, but fundamentally the plot is the most important part and it is almost comedically bad. It says a lot that the critic reviews are so high and audience opinion is so low, this is another example of a high budget movie using big name actors and falling flat, only to receive good-great ratings by critics. Personally as someone who always checks the movies i plan to watch by rating so as to not waste my time watching garbage, i feel betrayed and disappointed.
