I think a few of the reviewers never really understood what kind of "hero" Batman is. Batman is a dark detective series where a boy who loses his parents loses himself and removes himself from society for years. He is going to be depressing, he is going to seem fragile, and broken. The whole point of this movie was to start over from a new direction. The story is fantastic, a few things were drawn out longer than they needed to be. But this really is a movie about Bruce Wayne and Batman learning who they are and who they have to be. Yes he wears eye makeup, so did Keaton they just didn't show it. This is the sort of grim sad vibe and feeling i always knew Batman to be. It is a story about the growth of a character and not everyone seems to care about character growth rather they just want action and funny quips all the time. Gotham is a dark grim horror filled town where the worst of humanity is seen. The scene setting for this was amazing dark, rainy, depressing, it gave you a real feel that this town sucks and has major problems. All of the actors did an amazing job and I can not wait to see the character growth in the sequels. It is well worth the 3 hours if you are a true fan of Batman and the grim story he actually belongs to. (It will be hard for me to see another joker that isn't Heath though.)
