I am normally reserved when expectations of blood and meat-head gore touch the horizon of my screen watching follies..
The Netflix Punisher series 1 and 2 however, I admit unashamedly, is in my opinion one of the best, most gripping, and well planned / developed stories available right now. The violence is to be expected, but most certainly not the emotionally gripping pain and heartbreak that come with it. Not the anguish or captivating moments of love and (dare I say it) severe loss which pull on heartstrings most viewers tend to hide away when watching pictures moving on a screen.
As an audience member you feel it, the struggle, the betrayal. Each episode takes you on the ride, and does so almost faultlessly, with the violence bringing the audience member to a raw state of external, and even sometimes internal assessment.
I could go on, but as a viewer you must watch (at least 5 episodes beginning with season one) and decipher for oneself what it means to you - I recommend the full season one as a starter.
A real success, and thank you Marvel/Netflix for bringing in to it a swathe of layers and characters that one would not have normally expected from what we've traditionally experienced with renditions of The Punisher. This series is so much more.
