This film is deeply moving as well as telling the story of Johnathan Larsen that needs be told. He was a man with a dream who wouldn't be denied. The tragedy of his death so near to the brink of "Rent" exploding into the phenomenon it still is today is beautifully told. The horrible irony of his death, after a life of hardship and poverty, so near so far is captured by the very well-made production, starring Andrew Garfield in a beautifully crafted portrait of Larsen. The cast is spot on. All Garfield's scenes at the piano of that first performance are a grand acting class in finding essence.
