I don't usually write reviews very often, but I felt compelled so to do here, as this was an exceptional sitcom. I actually discovered it by accident while browsing Netflix, and I'm glad I did.
Over the course of the show, it brings moments of laughter and joy to millions of people across the planet, while also tackling many important social issues, while at the same time keeping it engaging and entertaining. It's a fine line to walk, and the show does it perfectly.
Charles Boyle and Jake Peralta develop their friendship over time, and while their antics may be seen as being somewhat over the top, or not the usual behaviour in a police precinct, that's not a good critique. The show is a sitcom, and it's not meant to be realistic. Just look at Superstore, it's not a "realistic" way of life for retail workers. For people claiming this, I suggest you look up what a sitcom is.
The Halloween Heist, The Pontiac Bandit, and Adrian Pimento all add charm to the show. Captain Holt is probably my favourite character, and he stands in stark contrast to the others, but at the same time, this adds a layer of depth and complexity to the show.
From this point on, there will be some spoilers, so a warning to any first-timers. The point is, that the show has meaning and depth, and that is seen through people like Jake Peralta. We all think that he is a premature person, but he has an emotional side to him. This is reflected in his relationship with Amy. At the end of the show, although it is sad, he puts his family first, to look after his son.
Although Season 8 wasn't as good as the previous seasons, and felt quite rushed, and had a bit too much to do with politics, it doesn't take away from the charm of the previous 7 seasons. Season 8 still had good moments, albeit not as good as the rest of the 7 seasons.
It's really amazing to see the characters grow and develop. This show was extremely entertaining. So many amazing memories, such as Jake and Captain Holt being stuck in Florida undercover, and if I had to rank a best episode, "Halloween Heist" - HalloVeen is probably the most fun and bizarre, and has a memorable moment with Jake's proposal to Amy.
As for Rosa Diaz, she is hard on the outside, but we do get to learn her more emotional side as the show progresses, more character development. As for Charles Boyle, he is a loyal friend to Jake throughout the series, and you can see that he values their friendship, a bit too much sometimes, but in a good way.
The final episodes really showed Jake mature, especially with his conversation with Holt at the end. Terry Jeffords and Gina Linetti both have their unique traits as well, as with Hitchcock and Scully. These two are the laziest of the squad, but they sometimes help out in the most unimaginable ways.
Overall, the show is a fantastic, unique take on the day-to-day life of a police precinct, and I highly recommend it to anyone of any age. Overall, it gets a 5/5 from me.
