The interesting thing is, I didn’t want to like the book. Half way through, I thought to myself:“isn’t this just childish drama? A normal on again off again relationship? Why am I wasting time reading this?”
However, I couldn’t stop reading it either. When the characters were together, I indulged in the book. The way they work together, their conversations, and their mannerisms are almost enchanting. Rooney does an amazing job weaving together their stories in a book that would’ve been terrible if not for her amazing choice of diction and her ability to charm the reader at some of the worst moments.
I stand by my 3 star because while I didn’t like pieces of the book, the characters got annoying as did the redundancy of the events, I couldn't put the book down. After I finished the book, I was still thinking about it. I came to my own conclusion as to what the meaning behind it was and called it a day.
I think a reader should keep their mind open when going into this novel.
