I loved the first one and was looking forward to watching the second one. I enjoyed the first half or so of the movie and then it just became high production cringe. I can't fault some of the acting, e.g. Henry Cavil. Millie's is mostly good throughout, however I cannot say the same for some others. Some of the accents feel so off, even from the actors who are English. They felt very put on and exaggerated and it pulled me out of the experience.
(Spoilers)
The scene in the factory near the end was when the cringe hit hard for me, it felt like something from Annie (the 1982 version) and it really didn't fit. I say Annie because it felt like they were going to burst into song.
The scene in the theatre at the end was also a bit meh, I hadn't considered Moriarty and TBH though they were going to put it off for another movie. I don't love how they have written her, as for Moriarty being a woman of colour, that's great, do what you want, I don't personally care for it. Just make sure to check the source material. Moriarty is one of Sherlock's greatest foes, so make sure to honour that if a third movie happens, because in this one she doesn't feel fleshed out like they great foe he is supposed to be. Regardless of what happens, I don't think they could make it better than the Game of Shadows one. Just don't ruin it too much.
Production wise, it looks great..... expect for a couple of shots when Millie is supposedly running on the roof. For anyone with a VFX eye, you'll notice it instantly. It isn't composited wonderfully. However, you can't bag out the VFX department too much as they were probably time pressed and this was a last shot.
While this movie isn't brilliant, its watchable. If you don't consider yourself too much of a critic, you'll enjoy it. I wouldn't consider this by any means an Enola Holmes franchise killer, but they'd need to make the third one as good as if not better than the first.
Thanks for reading. :)
