This is the sci fi movie we needed. Characters are well developed, and well acted, you see turning points within them that don't appear to be too abrupt.
At every moment you see our leading man grappling within himself. Honestly this could have been two or three films, feel like we're missing out on some context and key relationship development between characters, but given that it's a single film it's extremely well done.
Extremely limited exposition, yet I was never "lost". Shots and lighting are great, CG is like every sci fi fantasy you've imagined.
All banter aside, this is a TRUE war movie. Children are attacked, civilians killed. Genocide occurs in front of your face. The themes here are imperialism, colonialism, genocide, and pacifism.
The fact that people are so caught up that America can't be the bad guy in a movie tells you something about this film and why it's important.
