I love Harlan Coben and thoroughly enjoyed his young adult series (even though I am far outside the target demographic). I understand that changes are always made when bringing a book to the screen, but the changes that were made made zero sense.
Suddenly Mickey is living with a lesbian aunt who's having an affair with Troy's mom instead of his former basketball star uncle. Ema has changed from a heavily tattooed goth "girl of size" into a kind of emo slender lesbian. I'm all for representation, but it wasn't necessary. Mickey's mom spent the book in and out of rehab facilities, but evidently suicide is more palatable than addiction...and then there's Troy - who bears little resemblance to the gaslighting narcissistic bully from the book.
If the changes had made the series better, it would be one thing. But the series is slow, the acting wooden, and the whole thing is such a convoluted mess that I am ashamed to admit that I watched the whole thing.
