Master class in character development!
I'm from Puerto Rico and absolutely loved "A Delicate Marriage" by Margarita Barresi.
The meaning of Delicate Marriage between PR and the USA will not escape any reader. Through the two main characters Marco and Isabel, you will be enchanted by the history of Puerto Rico at a time of so many changes. Barresi grasped the evolving political and business boom of Puerto Rico while delighting us with Marco and Isabel through dialogues with a splash of Spanish throughout. Loved this!
Truly felt Marco's pain losing his father as a young child, his desire to prosper to be someone, his desperate desire to make more and more money, to be accepted were indeed palpable.
Isabel's frustration in every sense, impressively presented. A beautiful character full of growth. To me Isabel symbolized the frustrated Puerto Rico trying to save its culture, its language.
How she loved Puerto Rico!
What a beautiful novel. Thank you to the author for transporting me to the Puerto Rico del ayer. And the ending, wow!
