Perhaps it doesnt measure up to the stylish Casino but it is a brilliant acting job by the best of this generation. The ability of De Niro in particular to communicate silently, through facial expression or gesture is marvelous to behold. Joe Pesci and Al Pacino have less subtle parts than the inarticulate De Niro character, but pull it off with equal artistry, A very fine movie.

Surprisingly good. with some unsurprising character types, the unfeeling boss, the meek woman engineer, the stalwart crew members,nerds, etc. I am an astronomy and physics buff and would like to know the basis for some of the science of the prime elements of this movie, but having said all that, it is highly entertaining suspense with unbelievable special effects, particularly the martian landscape. I was touched by the reverence for "simple" plant life.

I thought it was a beautiful film that touched on many aspects of life in Africa and was well acted and heartbreaking. The relationship of the people to the government and to each other is powerfully told. So many details and side stories! The central character, a young boy, overcomes unbelievable setbacks and triumphs in the end.

Makes my list as one of the top ten worst pictures I have ever seen. Let me start by saying that the only virtue of this movie is it's Asian cast, a minority long underrepresented by Hollywood. That said, this is a long long picture with 2nd rate special effects, insultingly bad dialogue, and a confusing and never-ending plot line. I was squirming in my plush relax-o-lounger at the local cineplex within 20 minutes, not realizing that I had another 2 excruciating hours of this to go. I walked out about 30 minutes from the end feeling I had been tortured enough and didnt give a damn how it ended. I also found much of the portrayal of the Asian family stereotyped along with the few nasty white people thrown in as tormentors. It is a complete and utter mystery that this forgettable artistic achievement has received the acclaim it has. Pleeeeze, someone explain this to me.
