While not as bad as its predecessor, Sonic 2 still fails to recapture the feel of its video game counterpart. with its dull score, meandering plot, cringeworthy humor from the titular character, and ultimately unfaithfulness to the source material. Sure, it has the chaos emeralds, the tornado, Eggman’s iconic mustache, labyrinth zone, GUN from Sonic Adventure 2, and the team sonic dynamic from Sonic Heroes, but all of that is muddled by it’s insistence to be set in a realistic grounded world. Paramount pictures continues to disappoint with its romcom driven “Sonic” movies. Not even Idris Elba’s performance as Knuckles could save this film. But hey, at least the pixel art in the credits looks nice, so, that’s something? Right?
