Skinamarink isn't your average horror movie. It doesn't give away it's scariest concepts so freely like other horror movies. Instead, it makes you aware of them and teases their existence throughout the film. The film progressively makes those fearful elements more evident without actually giving them away in a shocking reveal. The way Skinamarink broadcasts the events of the film is not through shock, but in calm scenes with malevolent and uneasy tones. The movie doesn't try to get you with jumpscares but actually wants to put you inside the house and feel the eerie isolation the main characters are in. I had saw this movie once last week but it still is on the back of my mind, as now when it's late at night I look at the dark spaces in my house a lot differently. Skinamarink is a very immersive horror movie that has gotten mixed reviews but I say have patience and let the film take you into it's world. It's definitely not for everyone, but it is a very well made movie.
