SEMI SPOILERS CONTAINED:
I think the reason this movie got so much hate is that people go into it expecting a cheery, happy, feel good Christmas movie. However, a quick google of the description of the movie clearly explains the plot and that it is a PG-13 action movie. So, going in with that action mindset rather than the cheery Christmas one lets you see the full value of the movie, but the main characters just happen to be centered around Christmas.
With that, the movie had a pretty good plot and honestly felt like a Marvel movie of some sort (the Wakanda reminiscent North Pole dome? Chris Evans?), but as a Marvel fan I personally didn't mind. I also think the plot had pretty good development, the characters had individual development, and the special effects and cinematography were pretty good.
There is still some Christmas feel good sprinkled throughout, however I will say that for a Christmas movie it was sort of shortcoming in that aspect and I wish we got to see a bit more resolution with the plot. Will Jack become a bigger part of Dylans life? Will the North Pole need to relocate now that they've been breached?
Overall, good movie when you look at it for being an action movie rather than a Christmas movie. Would watch again.
