Spoiler alert
I absolutely LOVED this movie. I was so shocked by what gets revealed during the movie but I also already knew about Dumbledore and Grindelwald. At least I was already aware of Dumbledore being gay because it was told by JK Rowling herself I think a few years after the last Harry Potter film was released. Hearing Albus talk about his sister the way he did, and reveals what she was, I actually had a feeling that was what she was after reading Deathly hallows a few times and reading about Ariana and what happened to her. The wand that is given to Jacob doesn't really work like some people think that just handing a wand out is the new thing to do instead of the wand chooses the wizard thing. It's clear that since the wand given to Jacob doesn't have both a core and whatever else a wand is made of (at the moment I can't think of what that is but I am a very huge Harry Potter fan), but the wand is only made of one thing, it's not a true wand and can not do true magic from it. It may seem like he is, but he's not.
"As explained in The Secrets of Dumbledore when Jacob is handed the wand by Newt (Eddie Redmayne), the wand is technically a snakewood wand, meaning it genuinely looks at a glance to be a real wand. In reality, though, the wand lacks a magical core. Magical cores -- such as dragon heartstring, unicorn tail hair, phoenix feather, horned serpent horn -- are a key component of wands in this setting, helping create the necessary magical spark in the connection between the wizard and the wand. Lacking a core, Jacob's wand is more or less just for appearance's sake -- meant to gain the attention of Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) and draw it away from Jacob's genuinely magic allies."
