While Rook might be “My” Rook, that applies to visuals only. The soul of Rook (and for any decent RPG) is to be able to make choices and decisions that will impact other characters and companions either positively or negatively. They did away with the option entirely and instead my rook is really just a nice guy, or rather… someone else’s interpretation of what nice is. This, combined with lackluster combat is enough to give this game a fairly poor review. But hey, at least the visuals are pretty, right?
Indie studios become big because they aren’t afraid to take risks. Fromsoft with its difficult combat, Larian with its engaging story, and now Warhorse… a Czech studio who gave us Kingdom Come, a game on the surface sounds boring and would never be greenlit by a major studio.
They all took risks, and were rewarded for doing so. This game takes very little risks, and attempts to appeal to a very broad audience. In doing so, they have created nothing but mediocrity.
