I really, really looked forward to this movie but it landed like a flat soda on a hot summers day. Let down by very poor script, poor editing and David Leitch, a great action director, unfortunately does not seem able to direct romantic scenes. Where is the fast paced dialogue of Dead Pool and Bullet Train?
Poor script - the dialogue between the leads, both actors with loads of charisma, is boring and cringe. Watching those scenes feel like being a third wheel on a blind date with an awkward couple trying to outwit each other but they are about as interesting as yesterday's newspaper
Poor editing - the 'romantic scenes' and exposition scenes just go on for ever..If the dialogue was sharp, no problem but it was just bland. Cut 30-40min out of this movie with the dialogue paced like the action and then this would have been much better
Spoiler - so the premise is the lead actor accidentally kills a stuntman at a party (accident, not murder). RG is then flown all the way from the US to OZ to be framed for murder. I would say it is a rather good alibi to be halfway around the world at the time of murder but apparently OZ police cannot determine time of death?? All the people at the party who witnessed the accident will just keep their mouths shut? WHY STICK TO THIS SCRIPT IF IT MAKES NO SENSE? A small change of the accident/murder being at private stunt practice and RG character being in Sydney for a holiday/another job will still be contrived but a hell of a lot more believable than this utter nonsensey
Is there no quality check procedure where someone in the team of writers/producers/directors/actors can put up a hand and say...guys this make no sense? They just roll with it?
