I wrote this book after touring the then Soviet Union in 1986 to talk to normal people in normal jobs about their hopes and dreams in life. This was at a time when people in the soviet Union were treated like people in North Korea and Iran are now. I compared their hopes and dreams with people in similar jobs in the UK and guess what - snap!
