I was excited at the prospect of another Dickensian tale brought to us by BBC TV. Usually the bringer of wonderful period dramas. But... Having managed to get through 2 episodes I made the decision to give this a miss. Episode 2 was a struggle but I stuck with it in the vain hope I'd feel optimistic for future episodes. It's not to be I'm afraid. I like my Dickens tales to be true to the era not brought into the 21st century with present day imaginings. Drug abuse, sadism, masochism, foul language. Without doubt they existed in that era. Characters that bear little resemblance to the original. I was super disappointed. It was a very dark tale and definitely not for those who like the typical period drama. And not a pleasure to watch.
