Personally, I don't really like a lot of Hawthorne's works, his writing style is just not to my personal tastes. However, the man is a brilliant writer, and next to the Scarlet Letter, this is probably one of his best works. Granted, it is rather hand-fisted with it's symbolism, leaving little to no room for interpretation, even I can admit that it's beautifully written, Hawthorne's command of the language is truly enviable. And beyond that, he manages to get his point across clearly and effectively.
If you're even a passing fan of classic literature, this is definitely essential to read.
Overall? 8/10, only because I'm not the biggest fan of Hawthorne's style.
