This book poignantly shows the plight of many underprivileged Americans in our consumerism culture. Set in the not-too-distant dystopian future where capitalizing off of black athleticism and our correctional system is viewed as granting leniency and showing how we hungrily devour immoral forms of entertainment. The prisoners’ bodies plastered with sponsors much like NASCAR race cars. The author masterfully eked out empathy in this reader yet also shame as I voraciously read the death match scenes; realizing I was no better than those watching the Jumbotrons in the arena cheering and crying for their favorite imperfect human.
