The movie should not be considered a remake of Disney’s original animated movie. Rather, it should be viewed as a second perspective of the original, historical legend. Any studio could reinterpret the story, so why not Disney?
In fact, the cinematography and dialogue makes direct references to the original epic poem, which is interesting to find after the fact. There are less direct references in the animated version.
After watching them both back to back, the animated version wins out for the most artfully delivered sentimental lines, although there are some exactly the same lines delivered in this one that have a more potent effect because of who says them.
The magic in this movie makes it a LESS believable story, despite all of the references to the epic poem. I think people would have just as well enjoyed a live action version better without those creative licenses. Worth watching with an understanding filter, if only for the visual of the literature.
