One of the grittiest, most hard-hitting series ever written. A lot of people write off this show as "just another cop drama" without even giving it a chance, but that is far from being the case. The Shield can hardly be compared to any other TV series, aside from it's genetic counterpart Sons of Anarchy, as SOA creator Kurt Sutter began as a staff writer on The Shield and eventually took over as one of the executive producers from seasons 5 through 7. The Shield and Sons of Anarchy also share several cast members, including Walton Goggins, Jay Karnes, CCH Pounder, Kenny Johnson, Sutter himself and many more, as well as many of the same stellar directors including Guy Ferland and Paris Barclay. SOA's "One Niners" and "Byzlats" gangs are also prominent elements of The Shield's epic story, and play a huge part in its delivery. If you're looking for the kind of highly-immersive, slow burning and binge-worthy series with a highly controversial ending that Sons of Anarchy embodied, The Shield is as close as you will ever get.
