Picked up this book during a work trip 2 chapters in, I already decided to return it and I did. In fact i returned it without requesting for a refund because I am embarrassed to have this book on my shelf, or be associated with it in anyway. I’m embarrassed that I was even reading this in public at a restaurant. I am so bitter that I even spent a minute of my life reading it but what made me feel better was I managed to get rid of it and the bookstore so kindly gave me a refund after all.
The language adopted in this book is utterly crude, to a point I question why would anybody publish a book like that. It is as if someone took fan fiction (poorly written one) and bound it into a book. The only reason why I picked it was due to the many good reviews about its story line. However it is my personal preference to read not just for the story line, but also storytelling, the use of language to paint a scene and picture in the reader’s mind. The F word was used in place of many other more refined synonyms which I felt was absolutely unnecessary and cringey. If I had a chance to read a few pages of this book before buying it, since it was wrapped tightly in a plastic wrapper (because it’s rated 21 due to triggers) , I would never have bought it.
This book made me wonder how did we go from Emily Brontë who wrote dark/gothic romance to this kind of work in this time and age.
If I could give 0 stars, I would. Do not waste a minute of your life reading this, spare yourself the foul use of language and the depravity of its characters.
Would not recommend it at all.
