Quite simply. Brilliant.
I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting much, 80s bands, after all, tend to churn out poor returns after a period of time and OMD are as guilty as any.
However, this is the exception to the rule. It's a throwback, it sounds familiar but very fresh.
Obviously there are flaws, but they are limited and vastly outweighed by the triumph of Humphrey's and McCluskey's quest of brilliance . Not one track fails.
Germanic undertones, anti fascist lyrics, stomping beats, and synth hooks galore. It's a throwback like no other.
If they stopped now, it would be a beautiful farewell gift to the genre, to us all.
Think Dare, think Penthouses and Pavement, think Speak and Spell. Think Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark .
