I grew up in that era & my family settled there after escaping the communist takeover in Mainland China. Brought back many memories & refreshed circumstances of the times. Having been a schoolmate of the current PM & family friends of Lee Kuan Yew, the novel was historical despite its fictional basis. Great read, highly recommended!!
