Super Mario Odyssey is an absolute gem. Its my 2nd favorite Mario game of all time, right behind Super Mario Galaxy 1. This game is the perfect mario game to coincide The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild on switch. Its an absolutely fun, replayable, exciting, and amazing game that everyone must own.
The story... well its a Mario game so i think you all know what's coming. Bowser kidnaps peach and a magical tiara and plans to have a big wedding with her. Mario unites with a cap named Cappy and has to stop the wedding. Unlike Zelda games, story is not really important to me in a Mario game, but it is pretty creative in a sense. Odyssey is such a creative Mario game and it takes you to so many amazing locations along the world. My favorite location was Metro Kingdom, which is literally New York City. Sand Kingdom and Luncheon Kingdom are amazing as well. Each location is so open for exploration and so many creatures that add so much variety in the gameplay. By this, I mean the Capture mechanic. By throwing Cappy into any enemy, you take control of them and use them to travel different areas or collect moons. This is a fantastic way to shake up the gameplay and makes the game so fun. The controls are incredible. You really feel in control of Mario and honestly if something bad happens, its usually your fault and not the camera (Mario 64 anybody?). Now the moons. There are so many of these adding up to more than 800. As soon as you finish the main campaign, which is not that long, so many more moons are available in the post game. Some may seem a bit unrewarding, but most as so many different tasks that really adds to that variety I mentioned. Boss battles are so much fun as they all never feel similar to itself and there a different ways to defeat each one. Now the costumes. No they don't provide any benefits, but I had so much fun dressing Mario up with so many costumes. Finally, the graphics have never been better in a Mario game, frame rate is smooth, and the music is as great as any Mario game.
The only minor issue I have is that the game is a bit too easy, Lives are gone, so when you die you just lose 10 coins, which makes it a bit too easy.
Super Mario Odyssey is a must for switch owners. It surprised me in so many ways that i couldn't believe I loved as much as Breath of the Wild. I think i still prefer the zelda title, but thasts j because i prefer action adventure games more than platformers. Objectively it deserves the same amount of praise as Breath of the Wild. It will put so many smiles on peoples faces that you will play for hours on end. 10/10
