If it hadn't of been for LOTR in the same year this movie would have cleaned up. That's all there is to say. Look for yourself you won't be disappointed.

I'm not one for movies on time so this review comes 5 years too late but I'm glad at the same time not being caught up in the crowds running to review. So to start let's take a breath your going to need it.wilderness freezing temperatures raw outdoors and bears with some primal instincts not just from the wildlife but from man himself. Di caprio shows why he is the leading man and for many of his attributes this is by far a true testament to his unwavering ability to draw you in as if you were there. For a script that barely speaks a word on his part he slams home with unbelievably realistic quality both in surviving death and well I'll say it again surviving death. The shots of the bear attack with his will to live is about as brutal and close as you will get unless you fancy your chances, somehow I think not. You can literally feel the agonising bones crunching with for the faint hearted will almost certainly be a look away moment but needless to say from then on his will to live not just from that alone but from his camp mates (dominated) by Tom the hit man hardy will leave you wondering how humanity has evolved with such almost biblical brutality placed throughout the movie. There are beautiful poignant moments where you are left with your breath literally taken away from the stunning scenery and shots of nature taking its course in the buffalo run the momentary time do caprio spends with a wandering Indian before a swift and unexpected parting of ways. This is encapsulated with both amazing cgi especially in somewhat shock to the system stunt scenes and mans natural instinct to survive when all hope looks lost. You have all heard the saying you cant flog a dead horse? True! However sleeping in one is a different matter and you will experience that! so vegetarians and animal lovers It could be a tear jerking moment. If your a lover of nature with action this I have to say will be oddly the fastest 2.5 hour movie you will see in a long long time. Seldom does this time bomb slow if anything where di caprio practically kittens crawls his way from death and at that your left almost gasping for breath with him. Hardys performance once again shows us why he is in the Hollywood elites with his unrelenting and gripping talent there almost seems to be few roles he cant morph into easily. Folks sit back wrap up because this is going to be a chilling shock to the system and I'm not talking about the weather. Oscar winning performances 🎭 and one not easily forgotten.
