A good concept — the idea behind this piece is interesting. Good, even.
However the movie itself does a very poor execution of said idea.
The movie was so bad it was not scary. I myself usually never get scared when watching horror movies - nor do I flinch at jump scares or at Horror Nights.
But this was *bad* on a whole other level.
I saw this movie with my friends - very easy to scare. They will jump at **anything.** They are embarrassingly easy to freak/creep out. We’re in college. Even they were not scared - they didn’t flinch once. I honestly wouldn’t have blamed them if they’d dozed off during the movie — not because of midterms or studying so much either.
As a writer, I’m sorely offended this “movie” was released at all. I’m embarrassed for all horror movies because this is classified as “horror/psychological thriller.”
Again.
Good concept. I love the idea of a cursed mirror and the souls being bound to the mirror — the final shots themselves were decent. Especially for 2013.
But this could have been *so much* better. The story was a mess, they did a poor job of connecting the story together and had information dumps. It doesn’t matter what genre of story you’re telling - you *never* **ever** do information dumps.
Concept of switching between past/present was a nice touch — but was too excessive.
About three jump scares in the entire movie. And one of them was how horrible this movie is. I really think they meant to say this movie was “horrible” rather than “horror.”
