This book was absolutely horrible. I purchased this book thinking it would be a great book for my children to read however, this was not appropriate and did not have a good message or meaning behind it. My children were shocked when they finished the story. I have never seen my two young kids in this much distress. They are extremely sensitive and these books should not be made for children. I absolutely hated the ending of this book. This is not a good message to be teaching children. Children should realize that they should be respectful to everyone no matter of their looks. They should know how to have empathy for people and understand their feelings. Being respectful in life and working hard is important and you shouldn’t have to put all the burden on one person. Throughout the book you can see how the family didn’t care for Gregor. They put all the responsibility and pressure on him while they all enjoyed themselves. Additionally, he felt guilty when he transformed into an insect and could no longer provide for his family. The guilt should have been on the parents who expected him to do everything and relied on him. The story overall was ok however, there would be many aspects of the book that I would change.
