I was excited by the concept and potential of a new offering from Syfy....welp...
TL;DR: Don't waste your time on this cheap, amateurish mess. It is beyond comically bad, reaching towards painfully bad, with no redeeming qualities. From top to bottom, it looks and feels as if a soap-opera team from the 80's decided to switch to sci-fi.
The longer breakdown:
Plot is unoriginal and unimaginative. If doing something that's been done over and over for decades, at least find a unique angle?
Writing and characters were full of stereotypes and cliches and sounded like they needed a lot more workshopping to even approach sounding like normal conversation. Way too much random jargon thrown in where it wasn't necessary, and even normal conversations didn't give the actors much to work with because they sounded so childish.
Acting was shockingly amateurish, and almost no one was fully portraying a believable person. Just a crowd of people sounding like they just barely learned their lines, let alone considered the intentions behind them, and then just spit them out based on basic ideas of character archetypes while manufacturing the appearance of some forced emotion. Really, really bad.
Design aspects (set, costume, lighting) were about the most boring thing I've ever seen on my screen.
Even the soundtrack came off as cheap and poorly thought through.
Ultimately, this all gets laid at the feet of the producers and director who somehow decided it was good enough. Almost all shows have at least a couple of things working for them; sadly, this one has nothing going for it. Student films regularly deliver better quality work. Hopefully they dump it fast and make room for creators that have a shred of talent or a clue what they're doing. The one silver-lining I found is, this show being so terrible means I can use the time I'd have spent on it to go dig up one of the many decent shows I've missed over the years.
