When I first heard of the movie's name, I thought it must be some B grade comedy movie, especially with its tasteless posters with hand drawn bodies (of the primary characters in the movie) with larger sized photo faces. Then the reviews started coming in. But when I saw the movie, I was quite pleased as a mallu bcos this movie's success shows exactly how evolved the taste of the average movie-watching mallu is.
The Muslim household and main character come across as heart warming and transcends religion to say this is a story that people from any religion can relate to.
The format of the movie, if explained verbally, can be taken for a dud. There is very little drama, but the director retains the viewers' interest through subtle humour and emotional engagement (a little mushy sometimes!).
Soubin and the grand ladies have done a great job. The camera matches the characters, simple yet good. The music is gentle and funny and somehow u want to believe it's home-made and hence organic!
Never thought such a storytelling would win over people in droves, but it did! Never thought movies liked by a lot of people could be subtle and niche, but here it is! Five stars to Sudani from Nigeria!!
