This is such a powerful film that takes the audience on a unique journey in a world we have seen many times before but never like this. Director Jennifer Esposito and her incredible cast show us the parts of the mafia stories that could only be imagined as happening off camera in other films, giving a voice to the women who are historically overlooked in this genre, and in doing so has given a voice to all women, and anyone who has ever felt relegated to the sidelines, overlooked, and put in a box by the world around them. To anyone who has ever felt, as one character in the film says “where’s the respect for my life?!” (a line that will stick with me for the rest of mine), this film is for you. I cannot remember the last time I was so affected by a film, I kept tearing up in the theater, in the parking lot, and in the days after just thinking of how powerful it was. I love a popcorn movie as much as the next gal, but this film is fine dining; an experience to be savored and celebrated. Anyone lucky enough to be a showing, GO, you will not be disappointed!
