The exorcist believer 2023
Wow, what a failure attempt at suspense and horror.
First of all, the dialogue overlapping was the worst. I feel their effort at conveying the sense of chaos to the eyes who watch those scenes, but they failed at it – badly. They could’ve at least made the other voices quieter than the one they meant to be heard. It didn’t happen just once; it was all around the movie. Honestly, I don’t even know who the main character is.
There was no dynamics in the relationship of the two kids whom we’re supposed to feel the sympathy and pity for, the characters have too short screen time that you don’t see the point of it anymore. It was also a failure attempt at the inter-religious message of the movie by putting all of those people together of different beliefs in one room to perform the exorcism on the two kids. The suspense meant to convey by skipping through the whole process of the séance that the two kid had done and just flashing bits and pieces of it was not emanated at all.
the appearance of an old character was not even justified. Seriously, her character has no point in the whole film. She was just there to give a touch of the nostalgia from the first movie and even reunited her with a cameo from Regan’s actor (that made me cheer; but heck). They showed her explaining that she studied exorcism just so they could make sense of the main characterS calling to her for help; and she got her sight taken by answering. Actually, that was funny. I thought she was gonna do her magic in the end and play a much bigger and more significant role but no, that did not happen at all. In fact, the highlight was given to the most nonsense character of all who did not even make an effort to make a mark throughout the whole film; he was a puss – the priest. They even made his entrance on the last part of the exorcism glorious and spectacular-like but then he died, and his death didn’t even do anything, as well as the water that the weird woman poured on the kids, and the enchantments from the exorcism books done by Ann. Seriously, why is Ann suddenly the one performing the exorcism?
And lastly, the actors are horrible! Except for Ann of course, I’ve seen her in other movies. But the rest? O heck, I wonder why they’re the ones who didn’t get possessed – even the one doing the possession wouldn’t pick them. Odom was the worst among all of them. He talks like he’s freaking bored, he showed no emotions, his body movements are sloppy, and he doesn’t suit the good father role. And his daughter? Oh, I know she’s supposed to play 13, but she didn’t act 13. Or maybe she acted like one, but it sure heck wasn’t the character she was supposed to be portraying. She was too matured for the role. She was good, though, for the parts that she was playing possessed.
Honestly, I finished it just almost brushing everything off. I did not pay that much attention anymore because it wasn’t captivating, and you don’t get a lesson in the end. What, the kid dies in the end because of the mistake of her dad? And Victor and Ange remained huggy-huggy in the end while the others made their efforts in reviving Katherine? Dude.
