I was hoping for better things. Unfortunately, it looks like the writers have attempted to transplant a character idea from her former shows, into a fully-fledged sitcom. I would have preferred a bit more subtlety too. My own honest feeling is that the BBC were contractually obliged to give her a "star vehicle" after she filmed the special Doctor Who episode.
