I'm really entertained by all of the well written reviews on here.
Very interesting series. I was surprised to learn that this was based on a true story (I thought the opening credit was a joke). But after reading the news on this case, I now think this should have leaned more "based on" and less "truth." This is a fictionalized series meant to entertain, not be a documentary. Anna's character, even if based on a real person, would have been more compelling if her personality was more charismatic and if the accent sounded German/Russian. Think female version of Catch Me If You Can. Not everything needs to be true to reality, some fiction is better than reality. That's the point of fiction.
I haven't finished the series yet, but I want to see if they dive more into Anna's background to how she developed sociopathic tendencies, childhood stuff. I find the psychology aspect of true crime interesting and hope there's more here.
Some peeves about the show: The writers glamorize "old money" and seem to cast people that come from money as cool, rather than entitled, which showcases a specific perspective that the writers must be coming from. The elite scenarios are interesting nonetheless.
Another peeve was all of the names getting mispronounced. The writer at "Manhattan" is always passing her colleague "Fatima" and mispronouncing the name as "Fat-ima" instead of with a long ahh. I'm not sure the point of diversity if names are being pronounced incorrectly.

I changed my review to 5-stars. Her accent still peeves me and pronunciation of names should have been accurate, but the show is still good for what it is.
They explain more about how an unattractive person with a terrible personality was able to con so many people and institutions. It gets better towards the end episodes. Very entertaining and thought provoking series.
One thing I am not reading about in reviews is Anna's mental health. She was obviously very smart to pull this off, but to have no remorse and to be able to manipulate people to that degree, she appears to also have delusions. The show, at least, portrays her as truly believing that the identity that she claimed was real.
