This movie will have you re-evaluating what horror means, and maybe, as other popular mysteries of our day, what even is a movie, anyways?
I applaud him for his originality, and obvious refusal to be compared to anyone else in the genre, so much so that I think we’re seeing the emergence of a new one, maybe. Like paranormal activity did in the early 00s, Skinamarink will give you something you’ve never seen. And that has its ups and downs to it.
It’s definitely a brilliant work, clever, imaginative, and some moments through seem indistinguishable from actual nightmares. Whatever “it” is, he nailed “it”.
My only critique if this counts as one, is I’m not sure we’re ready to appreciate this as a culture, at least if we are, I havnt found my people to do it with yet. If you’re like me though, and appreciate it for the imagination required to make this film, and the absolute displacement from your reality that it delivers, settle in for a fun night at your own risk.
