I was honestly really ready to hate this movie. I didn’t like The Force Awakens or The Last Jedi, they were pretty much copies of the original Star Wars. I’m a huge Star Wars nerd, and I’ve read a lot of the books which are now considered “Legends” not Canon, so I was kinda upset about this since the books make the story even better than it already was. But I have to say, this movie really exceeded my expectations by a long shot. I really enjoyed it, and it seemed to incorporate some of the deep mythology of the Sith that is found in many of the books. For the first time, I found myself actually caring about what happens to Rey and Kylo Ren. I also liked that Kylo stopped being a Darth Vader wannabe and took his own direction. Finally, while I don’t think this movie “undid” the terribly made The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, it was definitely emotionally satisfying for a true Star Wars fan and was quite an epic conclusion to the series. I still wish Disney would follow the story line of the Legends books though. Those stories are honestly so much better.
