I’m a big fan of the games. I think people take the word adaptation in mind and think think things should come out an exact copy of the original thing it’s based off, but then also complain if it comes out an duplicate. Things like this rarely make all fans happy. It is an adaptation based off the books and certainly influenced by the games, but it’s its own thing done in a very different media then books or games. If you treat it as it’s own piece, telling its story it’s own way, then I think you’ll enjoy it. The timelines were somewhat confusing, however the Instant you realized how they worked, and it does just kinda click suddenly, it is very satisfying. :)
