A fictional account of the 2007 salvage of the Spanish galleon Nuestra Señora de Mercedes. As much as I love Stanley Tucci, this series was tone-deaf. I got really annoyed at the Spaniards parading around like the good guys reclaiming their stolen cultural heritage considering the Spanish plundered that gold from Latin America to begin with. The US Supreme Court dismissed Peru’s claim that the gold belonged to them since they were still a Spanish colony at the time. Disgusting.
