For all intents and purposes, this film should have been successful. The cast is great, the premise is interesting, the story progresses in a atypical way. Where it fell short, however, was the fact that the sexual imagery and violence had very little reason, other than sheer shock value, to exist. The scenes in which Denise and her friend were caught stealing, taken to the back of the store, and sexually assaulted until the manager's genitals are bitten off, didn't have any real value to the plot. It was just shock factor. You could argue that it was to contribute to Denise's distain towards domineering men but that's a stretch considering that the ordeal appears to have no impact as she leaves the store smiling.
I think the writing fell flat on the fact that the idea of Alpha/omega dynamics had less research and understanding than that of a fanfiction written by a 13 year old.
Unlike others, I didn't hate the direction and the cinematography. I think that the cast and crew executed Oram's vision. I enjoyed the way it was shot and I commend the attempt to create a completely post-verbal film in the 21st century.
