Gael Somerville

I love this film. Somehow it conveys something of what it was really like in WWII in the UK and tells you about the incredible dilemma of the team who had to keep enigma secret. It also brings to light a little of the machinations of military intelligence at this time. The story of Alan Turing is poignant and heartbreaking; the film captures this (helped by a beautiful score) and leaves you wondering what might have been achieved if society didn't have such backward views on both sexuality and the role of women. I find it extremely moving.

Yes it is sentimental but it is a Christmas movie and much like a Christmas Carol, you want people to be nice and have a happy ending. And it is good to have a Christmas movie where the focus is not on consumerism and Santas. The plot is predictable and the people soooo nice, but what would be irritating in the rest of the year goes down fine at Christmas. I enjoyed it and the song sung by Susan Boyle is pretty. Some good actors too.
