The movie is paced gently, which a good break from the commercial crowd pulling fare of overtly zealous dishoom dishoom, flying cars, sometimes raucous songs, catchy dance moves et al. That having said it's never slow and has a plot line that keeps one pleasantly hooked.
And while it's lifted from Forrest Gump, and, if you've seen that movie , a continuous mental comparo is delightfully irresistible. LSC, though provides novelty in the re-make with it's twists and turns and in it's own way manages to recapture the original magic and still hold ground.
Aamir is the star performer here and his presence and charisma are the backbone of the film, outshining all else on screen. His effort at diligently conversing in Punjabi is laudable. Mona Singh proves to be another class act and we must see more of her on the big screen.
The only con is the intensity, which the sub-plots could have elicited. Those too were tempered and a jugalbandi of that intensity with the gentleness of the main story may have potentially turned this sweet ode of a movie into a gripping showstopper.
Long p.s- the movie never defames any institution- religious or national. Let not smear campaigns sway you. Rather, it only enlivens hope in that one institution in which our collective identity is enshrined - humanity!
