Mahesh Babu seems to be either having a great run with how he selects his scripts or seems to get the best scripts and directors in the industry.Barring a Nenokkadine (which I really enjoyed by the way)his movies are now about messages packaged in a commercial format .He is basically making movies in the savior/messiah mode now and the BO returns seems to indicate that it is working really well.
Maharshi kept me engaged throughout and has a lot of meat in its story. This is what Telugu films are about -superb stories ,authentic acting and energetic direction.
The first half is more a personal story which then branches out to a much larger issue in the second half. The movie basically uses the Mahabharat theme of kauravas refusing 5 villages to Pandavas and then losing the entire kingdom to them with the villain tycoon Mittal refusing to spare one village and then losing his entire mega project due to this
The movie also gives a lot of positive thoughts about how we define success and how driven we should be for it.
This movie is really a treat for all Mahesh Babu fans after the superb Bharat Ane Nenu.Kudos to Vamshi Paidipally for achieving that
One of the by products of the focus on Mahesh Babu is how inconsequential the role of the female lead in in this movie -she basically disappears for large parts of the movie and we really don't care.
Small niggles aside, this is a superb addition to Mahesh Babu filmography and stands on it's own among many gems
